FROM towing in stranded boats to searching for people in the water, Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team had a busy day on Wednesday.
The volunteers were tasked on March 23 by Coordination Centre Belfast Coastguard to a boat which had encountered difficulties at sea.
Workington’s lifeboat team performed a welfare check on the people on-board and took the boat under tow back to safety.
Once back at the station, the team received reports of a person trapped waist deep in the water at Whitehaven’s North Shore.
The team made way to meet up with Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team whilst a request was made for the immediate launch of St Bees RNLI to assist.
A spokesperson for the Rescue Team said: “Our officers arrived on scene prepared to make a snatch water rescue, at the same time the lifeboat also arrived.
"With no sighting of the casualty and lots of public in the area, all assets conducted a hasty search along the shoreline of Whitey Rock/Redness Point and surrounding areas with nothing found.
“At the same time, Cumbria Police conducted a welfare check at the home address of the reported casualty and the welcomed news came that they were safe and well.”
