CUMBRIA Fire and Rescue Service crews will be hosting car washes across the county next weekend to raise funds for the people of Ukraine.

Teams from all across service will be washing cars and offering a tyre safety check over the weekend of April 2, from station houses within the county.

All washes will be free but the service asks for a small donation to be made for their Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Paul Milburn, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service’s station manager and charity liaison lead, said: "The people of Ukraine continue to be in our thoughts during this time.

"We stand in solidarity as we do whatever we can to support all those affected by the devastating and tragic events that continue to unfold.

"Please come down to your local fire station events to get your car cleaned while supporting the Ukrainian people and communities. All donations will be welcomed," he said.

The crews will also be at hand to answer any questions regarding smoke alarms or fire prevention at home.
