THE RECENT heatwave had the News and Star team looking forward to locking our typewriters away for the evening and heading out for a drink or two.
For that reason, we were searching for the “best beer gardens” in the area. As always, our readers answered the call.
Here, in no particular order, are some of many recommendations for the best beer gardens in the Carlisle area.
1. The Magpie Inn – Landlords George and Laura have received lots of praise from customers for being the friendliest in town. The drinks prices are also easy on the eye.
2. The Royal Scot – As well as the opportunity to enjoy a pint at the Morton pub, customers rave about the special items created by the chefs on the dinner menu.
3. The Jovial Sailor – The Caldcoates pub has been around since the 1880s and still retains many of its Victorian features. The Sailor is praised for its friendly atmosphere.
4. St Nicholas Arms – Perhaps the best place to start a Carlisle pub crawl? The London Road pub also has a menu filled with delicious meals to enjoy.
5. Lane Bar – Hidden away on Fisher Street, the pub gives those who have spent the day shopping the chance to enjoy a well-deserved beverage after getting that step count up.
6. The Globe Tavern – Over in Longtown, The Globe’s garden also has a play area for the kids to burn off some energy whilst you get the chance to catch some rays.
7. Mamoa Bar and Lounge – You can find the tastiest cocktails at Carlyle’s Court, with tables set outside to enjoy a blast of heat whilst sipping.
8. The Near Boot Inn – The Whiteclosegate pub has an extensive drinks list. If you have to wait until the weekend for a cold pint, why not visit as they serve their traditional Sunday carveries.
9. The Linton Holme Inn – Found on Lindisfarne Street, the pub’s dog-friendly beer garden can be enjoyed with the inn’s range of beers, bottles and spirits and the promise of great banter.
10. Espresso Hub – If you feel like you could go without a hangover, a coffee and cake on St Albans Row in the sun with the sound of buskers in the background is bliss.
