A CARLISLE car dealership will sponsor a local racer in an upcoming tournament.
Telford Automobiles, on Grearshill Road, unveiled Alex Turnbull’s Autoworks Paint Shop & Garage’s race car in their Citroen dealership in time for his participation in the Ginetta championships.
Discussing his son, Steve Turnbull said: “He’s been karting since he was around five years old, that’s been his thing.
"He enjoys going to the TeamSport track in Newcastle and has the track record there.
"We both go racing there now and again, although he’s just better than me.
“He was going to start doing the championships there but then the opportunity came up to race in the Ginetta championships, so I thought rather than spending similar money on karting we thought we’d try cars instead.
"He has always been interested in racing cars, but opportunities never came up but now here we are.
"He’s got the car and has had a few test days.
"His teammate is Tom Golding who is a triple champion and Alex was four seconds off him at a drive the other week which, for a rookie, isn’t that far off.”
Speaking at the unveiling, Alex wanted to show his appreciation towards the companies who are sponsoring him this season.
He said: “I would like to thank all my sponsors and everyone else for all their support with my racing. It is all really appreciated and I can’t thank them enough.”
Sponsors also offered their well wishes to the driver at the event.
Stephen Turnbull from Autoworks said: “Autoworks paint shop and garage are extremely proud to be sponsoring Alex to drive our race car. We can’t wait to watch and support you through your motorsport journey. We have all the confidence that Alex is going to succeed in his new venture. Good luck Alex.”
Greg Telford from Telford Automobiles shared: “We are delighted to be sponsoring Alex and his journey into motorsport. It is great to be involved with local talent like Alex so we were thrilled to be able to offer our showroom to Alex and to hold an event for him to unveil his race car. We wish him all the luck going into the Championships from everyone here at Team Telfords.”
Dave from Johnston Engineering continued: “I used to take Alex karting from the age of five so I am extremely proud to be sponsoring his new venture to the Ginetta Cup Championships. Good luck Alex from all at Johnston Engineering.”
