BLAITHWAITE Estate, to the south of Wigton, is expanding its offering for both Cumbrians and visitors to the county this Spring.
Tucked between the Lake District and the Solway Coast, the Estate is launching an annual membership programme to encourage locals to make use of the walking trails, get involved in conservation and attend events on the Estate.
A cafe and farm shop will also be added to be used by both day visitors and overnight guests. Alongside this, three new lodges will be added to the Estate’s already diverse accommodation options. The new offerings to the Estate come after the recent addition of two stargazer lodges.
The farm shop will support local and independent suppliers from lesser-known areas of the county stocking butchery (including BBQ packs), eggs, fresh milk and seasonal vegetables from surrounding farms, charcuterie from Stonehouse Smokery and cheese from Torpenhow Cheese alongside guest essentials and take home-baked treats. An impressive selection of local beers and spirits will also be available.
The casual cafe, with wood-clad interiors, will offer a rustic, homely atmosphere that fits seamlessly into its rural surroundings with muddy boats and pets welcome.
To attract more staying guests to the Estate, Blaithwaite will also be adding two new types of lodges to its already diverse range of accommodation options. Two woodland lodges, able to accommodate up to four people each, will open in April. The contemporary, open-plan lodges will each have a large living space, kitchen diner area, two impressive bedrooms and will benefit from huge amounts of natural light and surrounding countryside.
Co-owner of the Estate, Kate Donald commented: “This is an exciting time for Blaithwaite Estate. The expansion of our offering to encourage more locals to enjoy the estate is something that is important to us. The Blaithwaite Membership is a great way to ensure locals are part of the Blaithwaire family.
“By opening the estate grounds, we hope members will enjoy our numerous walking trails and will join us for the regular activities and events we run throughout the year. In turn, this will provide us with the opportunity to increase our conservation activities which is an important part of improving the sustainability of the estate.”
The Blaithwaite membership will be available to purchase online soon and those interested are invited to Blaithwaite’s first Estate Day on the 10th of April from 2-4 pm for tours, talks and to find out more about the membership.
