A LIMITED edition of 1,200 fine bone China mugs, specially designed to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee sold out online in just over four hours.
Herdy, who have a store in Keswick, created the limited-edition mug to celebrate Her Majesty reaching 70 years on the throne.
Herdy Co-founder Diane Hannah said, “We wanted to celebrate in our unique Herdy fashion, we have ‘herdified’ lots of people in the past, but no one quite as special as The Queen”.
The design features her ‘Herdy' Majesty resplendent in a royal blue outfit and carrying her iconic Launer handbag. She wears the Prince Albert Brooch, gifted to Queen Victoria by her husband on the eve of their wedding. The jewel is said to be one of the Queen’s favourites.
The mugs were handmade in England’s Staffordshire Potteries, and have been shipped as far as Texas, New York and New Zealand.
Fans of Herdy were notified about the release a few days before the mugs went on sale and demand was already sky-high before it went live on the website.
Diane continued: “It was incredible to see the response, the sale of the mug surpassed all our expectations. We knew it was a really special design, but we weren’t quite prepared for the way it flew out!”
Due to the huge success of the mug, Herdy has announced that they are planning on releasing another Platinum Jubilee mug nearer the time of the celebrations. The design will be different from the first and there’s a possibility it could include a couple of corgis this time around.
