PLANS have been submitted to the city council for the redevelopment of workspaces at the RAF Spadeadam base in Brampton.

Carlisle City Council has received an application for planning permission to demolish an existing workshop building and build a new fabrication workshop, store, plant workshop, office, goods in and machine workshop.

The development also includes creating a pressure system workshop, and calibration workshop and calibration workshop together with associated external works including a new staff car park.

Works will take place at the DNV research and testing facility.

A separate application has been submitted to create new conference and teaching facilities.

In their Design and Access statement, DNV said: “Due to the continued growth of the site, it has become apparent that the personnel on site need to be consolidated within one central area that is easily accessible for working, training and client needs.

“The application seeks to create a workshop building within easy access of the new offices and security points.

“The proposed application seeks to create a separate workshop building that has easy access to the new offices and the Lord Cullan building whilst utilising the existing area behind the client centre to create this building.”

DNV’s proposal looks to utilise existing made ground between the Lord Cullan building and the client centre.

“The scheme has been designed around the existing building that is the Lord Cullan building and create a new consolidated central base of buildings for personnel and visitors to utilise.

“DNV are constantly growing and testing new technologies and by utilising buildings, developed land and existing access points ensures development is controlled whilst creating a central hub for all users of the site and buildings combined."
