An arts organisation is leading Jubilee celebrations, with a variety of vibrant activities and events.
They will be participating in the Hadrian’s Wall Jubilee Beacon event celebrations on June 2 in Gilsland.
Green Croft Arts is a not-for-profit arts organisation based in Gilsland.
Their list of events and workshops is vast for the Hadrian’s Wall Beacon Event, which celebrates the Platinum Jubilee.
A swing dance band called The House of the Black Gardenia will lead a short swing dance taster for £3.00 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A community lantern parade will take place from 9:00 to 9:30 pm, and bagpiper Allen Clement will perform at 9:35 pm.
The lighting of the beacons will be officially announced by trumpeter Lara Hopper with a bugle call at 9:40 pm.

The beacons will be lit at 10:00 pm and then fireworks will commence at 10:05 pm.
This has been made possible through financial and volunteer support from the parish councils of Upper Denton and Thirlwall, Haltwhistle Town Council, Northumberland County Council Jubilee Fund and Arts Council England’s Let’s Create Jubilee Fund.
Jane Lady Gibson, chair of Hadrian’s Wall WHS Partnership Board, said: “Communities along the length of Hadrian’s Wall are taking part in this unique celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee made even more significant to us as it falls in the same year as our Hadrian 1900 festival, commemorating Hadrian arriving in northern Britain to supervise the building of his Wall in AD122”.
These celebrations will be preceded by preparatory workshops.
Both on Saturday, May 28, the first is a choir sessions where people of all ages are asked to participate in learning a Song for the Commonwealth that will be sung.
Singer and choir leader Lindsay Hannon will lead the session and teach the song.
No singing experience is required, and the song will be sung at the June 2 ceremony.
This takes place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Secondly, a lantern-making workshop for the lantern parade will commence at 12:00 pm and finish at 2:00 pm.
Green Croft Arts will help you make a willow lantern for our Community Lantern Parade, part of the Hadrian’s Wall Beacon Lighting celebrations or you can pick up a lantern pack to make at home.
