FINES totalling more than £3,000 have been given out to enviro crime offenders.
One such offender was forced to pay over £600 for not picking up after her dog.
At recent Carlisle Magistrates' Court hearings, Carlisle City Council had the following successful prosecutions:
- A woman in Carlisle who failed to clean up after her dog had fouled was found guilty of the offence and was fined £220 with costs of £364.16 and a victim surcharge of £34. Total £618.16.
- A woman from Penrith who dropped litter in Carlisle City Centre was found guilty of the offence and fined £440 with costs of £295.55 and a victim surcharge of £44. Total £779.55.
- A man from Carlisle who breached a community protection notice was fined guilty of the offence and fined £440 with costs of £339 and a victim surcharge of £44. Total £823.
- A man from Carlisle who fly-tipped household bags at Low Harker pleaded guilty at the Magistrates Court and was fined £446 with costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £26. Total £557.
- A man from Dumfries who dropped litter from a vehicle he was driving was fined £58 with costs of £58 and a victim surcharge of £34 after pleading guilty to the offence. Total £150.
- A man from Carlisle who breached a community protection notice was fined guilty of the offence and fined £110, no costs awarded and a victim surcharge £34. Total £144.

Cllr Nigel Christian, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: "The court prosecutions serve as a reminder that we will take action against those that don't follow the law.
"We all want to keep Carlisle clean and live within a safe environment."
