Fines totalling more than £3,000 have been given out to microchipping crime offenders, dog owners that failed to get their dog microchipped or keep the microchip details up to date.

At recent Carlisle Magistrates’ Court hearings, Carlisle City Council had the following successful prosecutions:

  • A man from Carlisle who failed to get his dog microchipped was found guilty of the offence by the court and was fined £220 with costs of £374.16 and a victim surcharge of £34. Total £628.16.
  • A woman from Carlisle who failed to ger dog microchipped was found guilty of the offence and was fined £220 with costs of £374.16 and a victim surcharge of £34. Total £628.16.
  • A woman from Aspatria who failed to get her dog microchipped despite reminder letters being sent, was found guilty of the offence by the court and was fined £220 together with costs of £339.85 and a victim surcharge of £34. Total £593.85.
  • A woman from Carlisle who failed to update her dog’s microchip has been fined £220 together with costs of £200 and a victim surcharge of £32. Total £452.
  • A woman from Carlisle who failed to get her dog's microchip details updated despite reminder letters being sent, was found guilty of the offence by the court and was fined £120 together with costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £34. Total £304.
  • Another woman from Carlisle who failed to get her dog's microchip details updated despite reminder letters being sent, was found guilty of the offence by the court and was fined £120 together with costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £34. Total £304.
  • A man from Carlisle who failed to get his dog’s microchip details updated was found guilty of the offence by the court and fined £40 together with costs of £175 and a victim surcharge of £34. Total £249.

Carlisle City Council would like to remind people that if they are contacted by the Council then they should not ignore any requests for information as action will be taken in the Courts.

Microchipping can help pets get returned to you if they ever become lost or stolen.

It is also a legal requirement to have any dog over the age of eight weeks microchipped.

If you move to a new house or change your telephone number, you must make sure that you tell the database you're registered with so that they have your up-to-date contact details.
