WITH less than two weeks to go to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend, Carlisle has come together to offer a range of exciting events and activities to mark the occasion and suit all ages.
Events include the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Lighting taking place at Carlisle Castle on Thursday, June 2, and the Community Celebration of Hope, including a Jubilee Big Lunch, taking place at Bitts Park on Sunday, June 5.
Other events across the weekend include Cumbria’s Military Festival at the Cumbrian Museum of Military Life on the Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, and various exhibitions also celebrating the Hadrian 1900 Festival, Uncovering Roman Carlisle, Our Hadrian’s Wall, and To the Edges of the Empire, all at Tullie House from now and across the Jubilee weekend.
Carlisle MP John Stevenson said: “It is absolutely right that we come together and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years since Elizabeth II’s reign began and all that she has achieved across a remarkable 70 years.
“With a four-day bank holiday weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities to celebrate this special occasion. I am delighted that Carlisle and its people have come together with such a wonderful weekend planned, full of activities fit for a Queen. I am looking forward to joining in the celebration.”
