A fundraiser has been launched to help shelter abandoned animals in Ukraine.
The Lake District Wildlife Park launched a fundraiser that will donate money to the charity Transform a Street Dog, which works to shelter abandoned dogs.
Publishing the fundraiser on JustGiving, a spokesperson from Lake District Wildlife Park said: “As we have all seen, the war in Ukraine continued to cause devastation across the country.
“Here at the Lake District Wildlife Park, we have watched in horror as thousands of dogs have been lost or abandoned since Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24.
“Our friends at Transform a Street Dog have been working tirelessly to rescue abandoned and homeless dogs across Ukraine.
“During the conflict, it has become harder and harder to find a way to deliver the pups from Ukraine to a safe home where they can get the love they deserve.
“Hundreds of families around the EU have offered to adopt the dogs, but they need our help building kennels to ensure the pups make it to their forever home safe, sound, and ready for family life.”
Currently, the charity runs four kennel projects.
They have one kennel project to rehabilitate unadoptable dogs who have faced the worst trauma, kennels on the Polish border to send dogs to Poland and Germany, kennels in Kyiv to temporarily house dogs taken from the street and kennels in Romania that will prepare dogs for rehoming in the Netherlands and UK.

Another spokesperson from Lake District Wildlife Park said of this fundraiser: “It was one of our directors who set it up.
“We all love dogs here, and Carolyn who set it up has a love of dogs.
“She is very concerned with their welfare.”
They added that there is no limit to this fundraiser, in terms of time or amount raised, and said: “Anything people can give would be a bonus.
“Anything that we can do to help.
“It is just quite sad with people and their pets, but the work that the charity is doing is great.”
