WIGTON Town Council has announced what events will take place to coincide with the Platinum Jubilee next week.
Kicking off the bank holiday weekend on Thursday, June 2, John Martin from John Peel Theatre will act as town crier for the day. He will make the Jubilee Proclamation at the Memorial Fountain at 2pm, inviting people to attend the town’s beacon lighting ceremony from 9:15pm.
The event involves specially written musical pieces - Piper Roland Lawson will play ‘Diu Regnare’ at 9:35pm, with ‘Majesty’ played on cornet by Ludger Barthelmes at 9:40pm. The newly renovated beacon will be lit at 9:45pm.
The ‘Party in the Park’ commences on Saturday, June 4.
The day starts from 3pm at Barton Laws on West Road, Wigton. Food and drinks vendors will be on site or bring a picnic and enjoy the music through the decades. From 3.30pm onwards we have children’s activities. At 4pm there’s a fancy-dress competition for best Royal Family, best dressed Queen, best dressed under 12/over 12 with prizes to be won!
BBC’s ‘Party from the Palace’ concert will be screened from 8pm with celebratory fireworks lit at 10:30pm.
The council has worked with local organisations to make the event inclusive and autism friendly, providing a ‘Quiet Zone’ in the Barton Laws community room run by Emma Budworth, local representative for Bee Friendly.
