A SCHOOL in north Cumbria has had some amazing news ahead of the Jubilee Bank Holiday celebrations. 

A special Jubilee flag designed by children at Plumbland C of E Primary School near Aspatria is one of 200 shortlisted flags handpicked out of 10,000 entries in a wordwide Platinum Jubilee Pageant. 

Plumbland's Primary School flag will feature among the 200 winning Jubilee Pageant flags to be televised to an estimated audience of billion people around the world. 

Staff and pupils at the school are 'ecstatic with the achievement' of their work being recognised.

School staff member Sharon Stephenson, said: "I entered our school into the competition a few months ago, not realising it was a worldwide competition, however we had our flag chosen."

The event overview addressed to Plumbland Primary School for the Platinum Jubilee Pagaent reads: "The Platinum Jubilee Pageant is a celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s incredible 70-year reign. The event takes place on Sunday 05 June 2022, in and around the streets near Buckingham Palace, St James’s Park and Whitehall.

"The live event will be broadcast across the globe on the BBC from 14:30 - 17:00 UK time and be watched by a predicted one billion people. It’s an incredibly special occasion and we’re thrilled you have been part of this big day."

The procession will begin on Whitehall, turn through Admiralty Arch, go down The Mall, turn right around the QVM and end on Birdcage Walk.

Following the Pageant, a number of the flags will be displayed as part of a public exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich from September 26 to the October 30.

Once the exhibition is finished we will endeavour to return the flags to the respective schools.

The competition for their artwork was organised by the River Of Hope, part of the Thames Festival Trust.

It is an art based learning project linking schools around the world together.
