THE ORGANISER of Denton Holme’s community event for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations has discussed what people can expect on the day.

Colin May has organised the Jubilee Big Lunch which will be held on Saturday, June 4 from 11am to 4pm.

Sharing what people can expect from the event, Colin said: “We have some local businesses setting up stalls and we’re hoping to have community groups join us to help promote what is happening in the area. For example, we will have the Friends of the Turkish Baths join us.

“St Stephen’s Brass Band will be joining us to perform live and there shall also be a DJ who will play some songs when the band aren’t playing.

“We have ICan Fitness join us with their wheels of wellness programme who will demonstrate some exercises. The Carlisle Community Cycle Hub is coming and they will hold competitions and games for those in attendance. There’s the Queen of Paws, a local store that sells dog treats attending, as we’re going to be based at the park, we thought it would be nice to let people’s pets have a nice day out too.

“To start off the day there will be a free yoga session at 11am where everyone is welcome. We’d also like people to bring some homemade treats, with prizes for the best cakes.

“What I try to do when I organise events is to have them free, so the public don’t feel like they have to spend money when they attend, we just want to make it friendly after what we’ve been through. We’d just like people to come along, take a picnic, and enjoy the day.

Asked if people in the area are starting to assist with community programmes, Colin, who runs the Denton Holme Community Engagement Group, answered: “It’s growing. It does take time for things like this to gain momentum, but more people have started to attend meetings and want to come and help with arranging things for the community.

“It’s nice to see people happy that things are happening again, and people are wanting to make a difference and make Denton Holme a better place to live for everyone.”
