School children have been presented with a commemorative gift to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Pupils from every primary and secondary school have received a memento purchased by Whitehaven Town Council as a reminder of the special occasion.
Primary school children were given rulers, secondary school children received pin badges and pupils at Mayfield Special School were given keyrings.
Chris Hayes, mayor of Whitehaven visited every school in the town to present the gifts to delighted children and said it was a highlight in his time as mayor.
He also spoke to children about his role, and answered lots of interesting questions.
Cllr Hayes said: “It was one of the best weeks I’ve had as mayor of Whitehaven. The kids were delighted with the gifts. There were questions and answers. I don’t live in a castle! I’m not the King of England! It was my pleasure to do that job. It was the best part of my year.”
