A MOTORIST caught driving while over the limit for a cocaine breakdown product has been given a one-year ban by magistrates.
Thomas Metcalfe, 31, from Temple Sowerby, near Penrith, committed the offence on January 15 at St Paul’s Square, Carlisle, the city’s Rickergate court heard. At the time, he had 332mcg of benzoylecgonine in every litre of blood.

After hearing the details, magistrates fined the defendant £500, with £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge. One year is the minimum ban available to the courts for any drug driving offence.
