Youngsters came together to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Enrolled at Abacus Day Nursery in Dalston, the nursery kids enjoyed a celebratory afternoon tea in their garden at the front of the nursery.

This was accompanied by finger sandwiches, sausage rolls, and sweet treats such as biscuits with an image of the Queen herself on them.

News and Star:

The small nursery in Dalston went all out for the occasion, thanks to the hard-working staff and the two managers Alison Borthwick and Leanne Perkins.

Leanne explained what was going ahead at the time: “We are doing a celebration for the Jubilee,” this is a follow on from the work they have all been doing over the week to teach the children about the Queen and the Jubilee, she explained.

Leanne continued: “All the children are involved and they have been very busy, making crowns and bunting to decorate the nursery for the occasion.

“The staff and children have come in with red, white and blue clothing or formal dress, just to mark the Jubilee and make it a special event that they can all remember.”

News and Star:

The children dined under a marquee tent with a fine accompaniment of royally themed classical music playing on a stereo, featuring hits like the national anthem and Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance Marches.

Similarly, the staff room was decked out with afternoon tea treats so the staff weren’t missing out either.

Alison said: “This is something to celebrate.

“The children and parents have been talking about all the celebrations that they are taking part in over the weekend, and we have made a lovely start to this.”

News and Star:

“We have been doing storytimes and group discussions around the topic to teach the children about the Jubilee and the Queen.”

Leanne reminisced: “I can always remember when we were little, we learned about VE Day, so it’s all about hearing people together and enjoying the day.”

The Platinum Jubilee marks 70 years on the throne for Queen Elizabeth II and is going to be celebrated across the whole weekend, but specifically Sunday, June 5.

The nursery has been awarded an outstanding grade during its last inspection and is located on Barras Lane in the rural village of Dalston, just south of Carlisle.
