POLICE have confirmed that one horse has died and three passengers suffered minor injuries following crash on the A66 near North Stainmore, earlier this morning.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said: "Police were contacted at around 8:15am today to the report of a road traffic collision involving a bow top being pulled by two horses and a wagon on A66 near North Stainmore.
"Three passengers in the bow top suffered minor injuries. One of the horses died as a result of the collision.
"The driver of the wagon was uninjured," they said.
As a result of the crash, the A66 westbound was temporarily closed at North Stainmore and was believed to have been re-opened at around 9:51 am, with tailbacks continuing for miles.
