Readers have been sharing their views after an MP announced her full support of Boris Johnson ahead of the vote of confidence yesterday (June 6).

Copeland MP Trudy Harrison pledged her support for the Prime Minister and said she believes it is the PM's 'bold leadership' that is securing a better future for Copeland.

Mrs Harrison said leading up to the vote which happened last night: "I will be supporting the Prime Minister in this evening’s vote and he continues to have my full confidence as we continue to build back from the pandemic.

"We have already achieved the fastest vaccine roll-out in Europe, the swiftest economic recovery, and the lowest unemployment since 1974.

"And there is so much to continue getting on with across Copeland; to tackle the cost of living, create high quality and well paid jobs, complete Towns Fund deals, support farming as we transition from EU rule, and to make sure that Rolls-Royce SMRs come to Copeland.

"This is to name just a few of the priorities I’m focused on right now, while reflecting on the significant Government investment we have already had in the recent past, including the new Whitehaven Academy and the redevelopment of the West Cumberland Hospital.

"On the major issues that are affecting us as we look ahead - Covid recovery, Brexit, UK security, our new nuclear future, multi-million town centre investments, flood prevention and levelling up - it's the PM's bold leadership that is securing a better future for Copeland."

Johnson survived the vote.

Readers were angered by this.

Geoff Restrick said: “I hope she never gets voted back in again.”

Lee Butterworth said: “Boris needs to go.

“He’s lied way too much but what’s the alternative.

“They are all as bad as each other across all parties.”

Alan Goodwin said: “So she is basically admitting that when she is given the choice, she is perfectly happy having a proven liar and lawbreaker running the country.”

Tim Knowles said: “Fair enough, go down in flames, it’s her choice.

“The reality is that it’s probably too late for her to get re-elected because the Conservative Party has already committed political suicide.”
