AROUND 2,500 gladiators got mucky this weekend as they took part in the annual large-scale mud-running event.
The Gelt Gladiator returned to the to the fields of Walton, near Brampton, on June 11 & 12 as entrants got dirty in the name of sport, fun and teambuilding.
Organiser Mike James said he is delighted that with 253 teams taking part, making up for 2,500 people, making The Premier Electrical Gelt Gladiator Cumbria's largest mass participation sporting event.
"It's not a huge team but it's a great team that has helped me all the way GG over the past seven years.
"Today we built on the success and gave 100's of children memories that will stay with them for a long time," Mike said.
"We added professional photographers this year and also included some new obstacles including the well received fire jump," he said.
Mike's son Harry organised all the marshals and pulled in 17 school friends from Trinity School to help.
The slip 'N slide event caters to all ages and abilities, with a 3k set up for kids and for adults, they have the choice of a 10 mile, 10k or 6k.
Of the 2,500 who turned up, 1,500 were kids.
"Children today are very rarely allowed the freedom to express themselves, take of challenges, build confidence and just do things that kids should do.
"At Gelt Gladiator we give them all of these things and then some," he said.
Amongst the teams were solicitor firm, Wragg Mark-Bell, who made up the WMB Warriors who were taking part to raise money for the British Red-Cross.
Nick Kennon, managing director at Wragg Mark-Bell, said: "The team at Wragg Mark-Bell should be so proud of their efforts this weekend. It's been fantastic to see the team come together to raise money for The British Red Cross - and have fun while doing it!
"It just goes to show what can be achieved with great teamwork, both inside and outside the office. Well done to everyone who took part and a huge thank you to those who donated in support," he said.
Entries for 2023 will be opening soon as the event looks to continue to build on the success of this fantastic community event.
