DETECTIVES are investigating an incident in Battlebarrow in Appleby on Saturday afternoon (11 June) are appealing for witnesses and people in the vicinity at the time to come forward.
The incident occurred during Appleby Horse Fair.
At around 1.15pm a large group of men, a number carrying sticks and other objects, were seen heading down Long Marton Road and onto Battlebarrow, before being prevented from accessing The Sands and Appleby town centre by police.
Two men, one aged 37 and another aged 25, were arrested following the incident on suspicion of violent disorder. They have since been released on bail.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said: “Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed this group making their way down Long Marton Road and/or onto Battlebarrow to contact police.
"Officers are also keen to hear from anyone with video footage which may assist. This could include CCTV, dashcam or footage recorded on a mobile phone.
