A FAMILY has donated £1,000 to Cumberland Infirmary following the compassionate and attentive care received by one of their family members.
The Acute Medical unit (AMU) at the Cumberland Infirmary received the donation from the family of Melanie Dowell, who sadly passed away on January 12.
Melanie's husband Gary Dowell and daughter Sophie White presented Rachel Eastham, Matron for Emergency Care, with the cheque and described how staff on AMU supported the whole family through a difficult time and how they could not fault the end of life care Melanie received.

"The staff on the ward were always busy but always had time to help when needed. Everyone was lovely, including the ladies who make me drinks. I'd like to give a special mention given to deputy ward manager, Adele Pattinson, for her kindness and support.
"The staff on the ward were also able to provide a car park permit, which was a very kind gesture. As a family we felt you often hear the negatives and feel it's so important to highlight positive experiences and the great work the hospital staff are doing every day," Mr Dowell said.
Rachel Eastham, Matron for Emergency Care said: "The donation is much appreciated and will be put towards the likes of family camp beds, for the comfort of families who are visiting frequently or may be spending time with their loved ones towards the end of their life.
"I would like to praise the staff on AMU for their continued commitment to providing high standards or care, often going the extra mile to support families at the most difficult of times. Well done team," she said.
