A WIGTON woman has been jailed for a spate of shoplifting offences which a court heard was fuelled by her drug addiction.
Zoe Dixon, 30, of High Street, pleaded guilty to all of the following seven theft offences - committed mostly last year - when she was put before Carlisle’s Rickergate court at the weekend:
- Stealing alcohol of unknown value from Home Bargains in Whitehaven on September 16 last year.
- Stealing gin worth £34 from an Aldi store in Carlisle on August 9 last year.
- Stealing laundry products worth £77 from Wilkinsons in Whitehaven on September 20 last year.
- Stealing meat of an unknown value from Iceland in Whitehaven on September 27 last year.
- Stealing three bottles of gin, valued at £45, from an Aldi store in Carlisle on August 12 last year.
- Stealing a £12 bottle of gin from and Aldi store in Whitehaven on September 24 last year.
- And stealing meat worth £22 from the Iceland store in Whitehaven on July 2.
Magistrates jailed Dixon for seven weeks, saying the offences were serious because of her previous offending and because she had shown herself unwilling to comply with community sentences due to her current drug addiction.
When released, she will have to compensate the stores which did not recover the goods she stole, said magistrates. She was represented by defence lawyer John Smith.
