FOR this week's nostalgia, we ran through the archives of pictures taken of sports day events in different schools and groups across Cumbria.

Sports day has always been a favourite day of the year for pupils, whether you aspired to be the next Usain Bolt and set school records or simply enjoyed the day free from lessons as you watched from the stands.

From sprints to long distance, or javelin to long jump, many got active and competitive for this day on the annual school calender. As you can see from some pictures, some schools opt for a themed day, such as the Greek theme which showcased different ancient sports.

Some people may have been blessed with the sunshine for their sports day, others may remember doing relay in the rain, but a day away from the classroom was always great fun.
