IN this weeks nostalgia, we looked through our archives and found some great photos from Ladies Day at Carlisle Racecourse in 2014.
Ladies Night is always popular with racegoers, and Carlisle boasts one of the most exclusive ladies racing fixtures in the world. The Ultimate Ladies’ Night 2014 was held in Carlisle on Monday August 4. The event is historically always held on the first Monday in August.
It is the only race meeting in the world in which all the jockeys competing must be female. As of 2014, it was the fourth year this rule was put in place and it was a decision driven by the track and backed by the Jockey Club, which owns Carlisle Racecourse
As the ladies wore their big hats and thousands turned out to one of the busiest days on the race track calendar, entertainment was provided by eighties band 'Wet Wet Wet'. The band performed hits including their cover of The Beatles' 'With A Little Help From My Friends' and classic 'Love Is All Around.'
The band later tweeted their thanks to the 6,000 strong crowd who watched their performance on the day.
