MEMBERS of the Uppies and Downies charity committee have handed over a cheque for £8,000 to this year's chosen charity.

Members of the committee travelled to Jubilee House at Penrith last week to present a cheque to the Fire Fighter's Charity, who the group decided to support this year.

An epic series of the Uppies and Downies was sealed for the Downies in April as Daniel Fryer hailed the ball for the side in 'the moment of his life to date' - but since then the money that the commitee raised has only gone up.

During the series the team held a sponsored fire engine pull, medium night, charity waxing, charity uppies and downies ball, as well as many other events and collections that took place before during and after the series

At the Easter Tuesday game, players from both the Uppies and Downies teams took part in a charity 'Truck pull' which saw them drag a fire engine up Black Path.

Players also displayed previous winners balls outside of the store, collecting donations for charity.

Elvin Jarvis, who is on the committee said: "We are overwhelmed by the support we had from raffle prizes to donations, the money will help massively at Jubilee House they offer lifelong support to members of the UK fire service community empowering individuals to achieve mental, physical, and social wellbeing throughout their lives.

Lynda Williams also a committee member said: "They support all fire and rescue service personnel whatever their role in the fire service, open 51 weeks of the year and also support retired and spouses and dependents of the service.

"Every penny goes to the charity and the £8,000 will help massively, we are truly grateful for all the donations."
