THE 900th anniversary of Carlisle Cathedral has been celebrated by a procession involving all denominations of the church.
The Catholic church worked with the Church of England in Carlisle and they came up with the plan of doing a proscession from Warwick Square to the Cathedral on Sunday, July 3.
Many gathered in Our Ladies Church at 2pm and processed through the town to the Cathedral where they joined the Cathedral community for evensong.
Afterwards, they went on to have the benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
Those at the event estimated there were around 450 people present and nearly 300 people who took part in the procession.
Fr. Luiz Ruscillo said: "The event was a great success and better than anyone expected.

"It was an uplifting and moving experience that saw many Christians from different denominations and churches join together in one prayerful event."
"There was almost something symbolic about walking together and towards the Cathedral to join as one.
"When the Cathedral was first founded 900 years ago, we Christians were not divided and we were all one.
"Now, 900 years on, it was good to have an event to touch again on that unity that we had lost."
