MEMBERS of Cumbria County Council welcomed the opening of the new model railway storage shed at Hammond’s Pond, Carlisle.
The celebratory opening of the long-awaited carriage shed was launched by the Leader of Cumbria County Council, Cllr Stewart Young on July 14.
The county council put forward £7,801 for their a new storage shed for the railway carriages, with the society also receiving grant funding of £2,249 from Carlisle City Council, £1,194 from Cumbria Community Foundation and the rest from the model railway club.
The club, which was established in 1936, were proud to welcome the return of the locomotives to the beautiful sites of Hammond's Pond on Sunday (June 5) after Covid-19 completely took the service off the tracks.
The new shed will house the railway carriages that the public can ride on and this new facility will enable the carriages to be driven into storage, instead of lifting the heavy machines, which is becoming difficult for society members to do.
The society is keen to attract new members who would like to continue running the model railway for future generations of families in Carlisle.
If you are interested in helping as a volunteer, please contact the club on their Facebook page.
