Luke Greenbank set his sights on 200m backstroke success at the Commonwealth Games after a frustrating fifth in the 100m final.
The Cumbrian's time of 54.29 was not enough to get him on the podium in Saturday's final.
The Cockermouth swimmer will now turn his attentions to the 200m when he will be expected to be in medal contention.
Speaking after the 100m final, Greenbank, 24, said: "I was hoping to go a lot better.

"I thought I had the race plan executed a lot better but it just didn’t come together tonight.
"It’s frustrating because I know I can go faster than that but I've just got to rest up for a few days and focus on the 200m.”
South African Pieter Koetze won gold with England's Brodie Williams silver and Australia's Bradley Woodward bronze.
In badminton, Cumbrian Lauren Smith and England progressed to Sunday's quarter-finals in second place in their group.
Smith and Marcus Ellis lost 9-21, 15-21 to the table-toppers in the mixed doubles, with the Longtown star and Chloe Birch beaten 19-21, 17-21 in the women's doubles.
Ellis said of the mixed doubled defeat: "It has been a harsh reality check for us. We had a great day yesterday, spirits were really high. We knew this was going to be the crunch match.”
Birch, meanwhile, added: "Singapore are so up and coming, they’ve got great players. We always knew it was going to be a tough challenge. Lauren and I haven’t played competitively together for six months. We’re pretty gutted not to finish top.”
Helen Housby, meanwhile, dropped to the bench for England's 66-41 netball victory over Malawi.
They take on Northern Ireland on Monday.
