A PLANNING application has been submitted to Allerdale that would see the former Debenhams store in Workington converted into a unit to house 'a leading national clothing retailer'.
Speculations have arisen that the unit may become a new store for leading national clothing chain Primark - after previous thoughts were that TK Maxx may move into the former Debenhams building.
The proposal says that: "Planning permission is sought for external works associated with replacement of shopfront.
"The proposed external works to the shopfront aims to improve on existing while meeting the requirements of the new occupiers move to the premises.
"The proposal a high-quality finish for a well-established shopping centre.
"The shopfront materials include PPC aluminium frames with both glass and PPC aluminium infill panels to complement the design of the existing shopping centre."
It is understood that another application will be submitted in the near future for signage around the store- giving the public a more clear idea of who will make the store their home.
