TWO of Alan Bennett’s much-loved monologues are coming to Carlisle later this month.
‘A Chip in the Sugar’, followed by ‘A Woman of No Importance’, are from the playwright’s Talking Head series and will be running at Carlisle Green Room West Walls Theatre from August 22-27.
This is the first time that Alan Bennett’s work has been performed at the theatre since the success of his play, ‘Office Suite’, in 2019.
Director and performer Jason Munn said: “It is an absolute privilege to be able to bring the wonderful work of Alan Bennett to the Green Room stage once more.
“Bennett’s dialogue and writing is so steeped in the north, with colloquialisms and mannerisms, which do remind me sometimes of my grandparents – even though they were from Cleator Moor,” he said.
The Talking Heads monologues are widely regarded as one of Mr Bennett’s finest achievements and remain amongst his most admired works today. The humour and understanding of British people, particularly northerners, shines through.
Ticket are priced at £10 (£9 for members) with a special Monday performance offering £5 a ticket for everyone.
