Dogs and their owners are invited to celebrate international dog day – and the launch of a new dog walking guide - with a meet-up and ramble.

The group walk, which is being led by Paragon Veterinary Group, will take place on Friday, August 26 from 10:30am to 12:30pm.

Paragon has surgeries in Wetheral, Dalston and Newbiggin, and this walk will commence at the car park by the Dalston Green.

Paragon vet Graham Lewis said: “We would love locals and their dogs to join us for our group dog walk to celebrate our faithful friends on international dog day.

“We’ll also be launching our new free dog walk guide with copies available on the day.

“The guide features six of the best dog walks in Cumbria and the one we will do together on the day is featured in the guide.

“It is one of my favourites which I do with my two dogs Clova and Skye and is a short easy route.

“There will be time for a leisurely ramble and chat.”

The six walks featured in Paragon’s dog walking guide have been specially selected with dogs in mind, and none include stiles.

Graham, who is based at Paragon’s Dalston surgery, had the idea to produce the booklet which is called ‘Come on, let’s go!’.

It showcases two of his own favourite walks as well as four by the award-winning outdoor writer, and dog lover, Vivienne Crow.

The guide includes vital information on avoiding hazards like heatstroke and blue-green algae, and how to behave around livestock and has tips on dog-friendly pubs, advice on terrain and parking.

Each walk includes a step-by-step guide to the route.
