Over 2 weeks ago, Michael Watson finished his 500 Wainwright Fell challenge, completing his figures by conquering England’s Highest Mountain, Scafell Pike three times!
On January,1 Mike started his 500 Wainwright Fell challenge, which consisted of walking two full rounds, plus an additional 72 to total 500.
The reasoning behind such an incredible challenge, was simply Mikes support for his great friend, Gary McKee, who is also completing his own challenge, running 365 marathons in 365 days, with a target of raising £1 million.
In 2021, Gary McKee ran 110 consecutive marathons, where Mike joined him on 46 of them, raising funds, for two fantastic charities: Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Due to an injury obtain in 2021, Mike was unable to join Gary on any runs in his most recent quest, but still wanted to show his support in some way. Combining his true friendship, and love for fell walking, came the 500 Wainwright challenge.
Here are Mikes fantastic final stats:
- Total miles driven – 5,165
- Total miles walked – 957 (2 miles an hour)
- Total Ascent – 330,000ftn (equivalent of climbing Mount Everest over 11 times)
Mike said, “Life is certainly a lot easier now without all the thinking and planning associated with 6 months of fell walking, but it was well worth it to offer my support to Gary, Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan.
"The work that the charities do is priceless to those in the greatness need and Gary gives us all a chance to help in our own ways. He takes leading by example to the next level and beyond.”
