Wigton Wombles are celebrating their first year of stepping up and stepping out into their community.
The group was developed by North Allerdale Development Trust, a local charity based in Wigton to provide a fun supportive provision for local young people aged 7-11.
Wigton Wombles identify local areas in their community to clean up and promote the benefits of looking after their local environment.
What a fantastic first year it has been, Wigton Wombles have joined forces with representatives from Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria Fire Service, Cumbria Police and Cumbria County Council to take part in Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean. They have featured on ITV Border News, appeared in the newspapers and made a film all about what being a Wigton Womble is! This has allowed them to use their voices to highlight the littering and environmental issues in their local community.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said : "A huge thank you goes to the Wombles for being great role models for their generation and what they have achieved in the last year, caring about their community and using their voices to create awareness to make a difference in the community."
Wigton Wombles runs every Wednesday 3.30pm – 5pm for young people aged 8+.
