A MOTORIST has been banned after his passenger was injured while tumbling from the back of the van he was driving on the A595.

Ashley Parry, 26, was driving a Ford Transit van on the main road at Clint’s Brow in Egremont on March 27, with five passengers in the rear of the van.

The passengers were travelling without seatbelts, when a male passenger exited the rear doors, while the vehicle was moving, causing injury to him.

Parry failed to stop the van when the victim was injured.

The defendant, of Bow Fell Road, Whitehaven, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after a road accident and using a vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger of injury.

He appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Parry was banned from driving for six months and was given a 12-month community order with 150 hours of unpaid work.

He must pay £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
