Top trainer Nicky Richards has led the tributes to legendary racing journalist John Budden after his death at 83.
Mr Budden, a columnist on The Cumberland News since 1966, passed away last Tuesday.
His death brought tributes from across racing, where Mr Budden was a hugely respected figure as a writer, broadcaster and commentator.
Greystoke trainer Richards said Mr Budden would be fondly remembered. “He was a very close friend of father’s [Gordon Richards], and as everybody knows he was a schoolteacher and he taught my sister and my secretary,” Richards told Racing TV.

“They’ve all got nice memories of him.
“He was just a gentleman. He will be missed by a lot of people.
“He was a bit of a one-off. A lovely man and whatever he did, he did very well.”
