A CUMBRIAN nuclear scientist has been named in the line-up of this year's Great British Bake Off.
James, 25, a nuclear scientist from Cumbria, will appear in the Channel 4 hit series when it returns on Tuesday, September 13.
Described as a 'proud kilt-wearer', James grew up in the east-end of Glasgow and moved to England after university.
He is a self-proclaimed board game geek and loves horror films from the 70s and 80s. He's also an avid music fan.
He said his baking is now 'significantly better' than it was during his childhood when he was burning pancakes in his mother’s kitchen...
He enjoys the technical side of baking, but is in his element with his signature ‘child-friendly horror’ style and 'adorable' decorations.
His favourite flavours are 'anything autumnal, like mixed spice, apples and caramel'.
James is one of twelve contestants who are set to star in the hugely popular show, which is now in its 13th series.
Other contestants include supermarket cashier Carole from Dorset, nanny Sandro from London, and music teacher Kevin, from Lanarkshire.
The Love Productions show began life on the BBC with original hosts Mel and Sue, before moving to Channel 4.
It has long since become a staple of the autumn television calendar, with its bucolic vision of the British countryside, warm-hearted and generous tone - and inspiring bakes.
Hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding now front the programme alongside judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, who took over from original judge Mary Berry.
The show has been the launchpad for major careers for some of its bakers in the past, perhaps most notably Nadiya Hussain MBE, who shot to stardom after winning the sixth series of The Great British Bake Off in 2015.
