TEN new critical care doctors have been employed by the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) to help expand their work across the North West and Cumbria.
The air ambulance recently expanded its operations in Cumbria to cover 24-hours-a-day across the busiest nights of the week.
“There is a definite need for more doctors within the organisation. We’re busier than ever and demands on the service are high,’’ said Great North Air Ambulance Service medical director, Dr Chris Smith.
Dr Smith added: “In the end, 10 doctors were selected. These 10 had the required experience, skillset and approach needed to ensure we continue to deliver the best standard of care to our patients.”
The new team of doctors will each take on about four shifts a month, working alongside the charity’s paramedic and pilot team.
GNAAS does not receive any public funding and relies entirely on the generosity of people’s donations to carry on saving lives across the region.
