A POET and a photographer are organising a walk on Bolton Fell Moss on Saturday, September 10 at 10am giving people a unique opportunity to visit the site before its official opening next year.

Poet Harriet Fraser and photographer Rob Fraser have worked with the restoration team as part of the project to restore the area.

Bolton Fell Moss is a vast lowland raised mire, which has a history of peat extraction to be used in the horticultural industry before being restored to its original state.

The route will follow the new boardwalk, which runs for almost 3km and will go into the heart of the mire, passing through areas of mined and untouched peatland, and areas where restoration is underway.

Along the route there will be periodical pauses for poetry performed by Harriet Fraser, who is also a visiting research fellow at the University of Cumbria.

The project is being run in collaboration with artists, peat specialists and Natural England with funding from the ‘Arts Based Public Engagement with Climate Change’ programme.
