MPs from across North and West Cumbria have taken to social media and their websites to offer their condolences to the Royal Family after the death of Her Majesty, The Queen yesterday.
Carlisle MP John Stevenson said: ‘’It is with great sadness that I join the rest of the nation in mourning the passing of HM The Queen. One of the greatest monarchs in history.’’
‘’She led our country and the Commonwealth with dedication, love and skill for 70 yrs. Thoughts and prayers with the Royal Family tonight.’’
MPs from all sides of the house will offer their tributes to Queen Elizabeth II this afternoon and tomorrow as a rare Saturday sitting of the House of Commons has been announced.
‘’It was with great sadness that we learned earlier today of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We join the Royal Family, the whole of the country, and the world in mourning her death’’ said Workington MP Mark Jenkinson.
‘’I know that all across the Workington constituency, you will share my sadness at the loss of our most glorious sovereign. She has been a constant in our lives, our matriarch, carrying out her duties with grace and humility. Unquestioning in her service to the country, and prioritising duty to the last.’’
‘’As we enter a new era in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth, I am proud to have been part of the second Elizabethan era.’’
‘’The next few days will be a period of national mourning, for part of which Her Majesty will lie in state in Westminster Hall.’’

Born on April 21, 1926, during the reign of her paternal grandfather King George V Queen Elizabeth II went on the be Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
The nation’s longest-reigning monarch reached her historic Platinum Jubilee of 70 years on the throne on February 6.
The MP for Penrith and the Border also wished his ‘’deepest condolences’’ to the Royal Family.
