Dignitaries and officials gathered at Carlisle Cathedral at 12 noon on Friday to lay flowers and offer thanks to the remarkable life and service of Queen Elizabeth II.

A special ceremony was held at Carlisle Cathedral where a book of condolence was opened for city folk to leave messages of sympathy.

Flowers were laid by the Lord Lieutenant, representatives from the emergency services and members of the clergy.

Tributes were led by senior representative of the crown in Cumbria, Lord Lieutenant, Claire Hensman

‘’Her era will always be regarded as a golden era of very stable monarchy, and she’s guided and unified the country over many years’’ said Mrs Hensman.

‘’The monarchy has a constitutional role for us as it provides stability, and The Queen brought us all together showing us how much more we have in common than what divides us.

A large crowd gathered to watch the flower laying ceremony whilst many have signed the book of condolence.
