11 people have died of COVID across Allerdale, Carlisle and Copeland over the last eight days according to the latest figure.

Before this week no coronavirus deaths were recorded across North and West Cumbria for three consecutive weeks.

The news means that a total of 1,111 people have now died in the area within 28 days of a positive test.

A total of 165,369 deaths were recorded throughout England by Thursday, September 8– up from 164,264 eight days previous.

North Cumbria Integrated Care Trust was also caring for 60 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Wednesday, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on September 7 was up from 53 on the same day the previous week.

There were 47 beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago in North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The figures also show that 39 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust in the week to September 5. This was up from 22 in the previous seven days.

Recorded case numbers of the virus are also falling across the entire region after a small spike.
