Volunteers at a community bee garden were amazed and delighted to find that there are now more than 70 different flowering plants present.

This includes shrubs, perennials, spring bulbs and herbs but does not include weeds.

This means that the diversity for bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects is huge and extends into spring and autumn to help the early and late insects at ‘The Bee Garden’ found at Brampton Community Centre.

The challenge to name all the plants was set when a friend of the garden remarked that there were at least forty species there.

Over the years the original planting has been added to with donations from local people.

The Community Centre and Sustainable Brampton have also contributed.

The Bee Garden is a popular spot to sit and watch the world go by or meet up with friends.

Some visitors also help by casually pulling out the odd weed, picking up some litter or even sweeping the flagstones.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact eileennorman@phonecoop.coop or speak to staff at the Community Centre.
