AN organisation that provides affordable food has expanded to a new premise in Brampton - offering a helping hand when it comes to food-shops as we go through the cost-of-living crisis.
Carlisle Community Help expanded their operations to Brampton Community Food, after the initial charity running it decided to wind down.
Brampton Community Food, much like the other Carlisle Affordable Food Hubs, allows for people to buy credits online for the price of either £6, £8, £10 and walk away with a food shop deducted from credits at a price cheaper than supermarkets.
Carlisle City Council’s Labour group leader, Lisa Brown, who set up the charity, said it was a "no-brainer" to take it over.
"They were already one of our affordable food-hubs, we would drop off to them anyway, it made sense to keep it going.
"I do hope, by us coming along, there's opportunities for us to do more in Brampton and build the capacity.

"It's surprising the amount of food poverty in rural areas such as Brampton, it's often overlooked and maybe seen as an urban problem but there's just as many similar types of problems with the cost-of-living crisis," she said.
Cllr Brown also pointed out that there's not a cheap supermarket out that way either, making the need for the affordable food hub all the more prevalent.
"The county council have been excellent in supporting us, and generally people fundraising and bringing donations. Kelly Cromie, the Community Champion at Tesco, she is a total asset for us in providing us with food.
"If anyone has any food donations they want to drop off in Brampton, for now, we're open on Friday mornings.
"We're also running a community cafe there on a Friday, people can come in have a coffee and it can act as a bit of a warm hub - in exchange for a small donation," she said.
