Readers have been sharing their thoughts after Lake District bosses urged the government to act on holiday lets.
Board members of the national park authority met in Kendal this week to discuss a number of issues impacting the area.
Public figures say that the rise of holiday lets in tourism hotspots is reducing the number of homes available for purchase by young families and first time buyers.
Here’s what the readers had to say.
AJ Shield is affected: “I can’t afford to move back home to Cockermouth, so I live in Workington.”
Pip Claire Gofton said: “Holiday let’s also crush the local workforce as people cannot find places to rent, then add that 95 per cent of house lets do not allow pets when we are a nation or ‘pet lovers’.”
Ian Green said: “When you visit the Lake District National Park, you have to put up with a few of the miserable, unwelcoming locals.
“Every holiday destination has its drawbacks.”
Ray Gregory said: “Closing gate after the horse has bolted springs to mind, been going on for years, councillors, planners etc, been sitting on their hands all the time, lots of talk but never any action until now, but sadly far too late.
“House prices way out of reach of any locals.”
