A well-known hiking group has been visiting the Lake District earlier this month.

Muslim Hikers paid a visit to parts of our county this September.

The group was founded by Haroon Mota and its aim is to get more people in the Muslim community into the outdoors and enjoying hiking.

Mr Mota said: "It's a new organisation to encourage, empower and inspire more ethnic minority communities to get outside. So, we're trying to build people's awareness and confidence of the outdoors.

"We're set up for a UK wide and global audience we don't actually have a localised walking group as such. Our walks take place all over the country in various national parks.

"I'm Coventry based but the group itself covers a UK wide audience."

The group were in the Lake District in early September and trekked up Scafell Pike, the highest peak in the UK.

The group also spent some time around Wasdale and went up Lingmell.

Mr Mota continued: "It was amazing coming to Cumbria; we've hiked there before and in July we had a hike involving 150 people which was our first time in the Lake District.

"It was nice to come back again so soon after that, for what was a magical hiking experience."
