VENDORS at Carlisle's cultural and business hub Tribe are still doing business, despite Tribe CIC's website announcing that it has 'ceased trading'.
The community interest company Tribe Carlisle, which houses street food vendors and arts programmes, was put under pressure after the company entered voluntary liquidation over a week ago.
The former operator, Joe Gardham, was contracted to run the site by Carlisle City Council upon its opening in August last year.
The council said in a statement yesterday: "Tribe Carlisle CIC at Bitts Park is operated through a Community Interest Company who, following a public tender exercise, were appointed to operate the site since its opening in late August 2021.
"Tribe Carlisle CIC is not owned by the Council and we cannot comment on the affairs of the company."
The venue at Bitts Park will now have to find a new operator if the site is to continue to run.
But for the time-being, much-loved favourites such as Pokey Parlour and Beirut Bites are still open for business, the vendors confirmed.
A petition has been set up by the traders to try and save the premise.
Upon the announcement of the voluntary liquidation last week, a spokesperson from the organisation had said: "Tribe is proud of everything the site has achieved within the past year."
