A WEATHER warning has been put in place as the north west - including Cumbria - is set to hit by heavy winds this week.

National forecaster the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind from October 5.

The strong winds will likely cause disruption. Met Office have warned there may be a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris, as well as damage to buildings and road closures.

Longer journey times or cancellations may occur as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.

There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

The forecasters also note there is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
