A PERSON has been hit by at train on the line between the Lake District and Lancaster - leading to services being cancelled on the West Coast mainline route.

Services between Lancaster and Carlisle are said to be affected by the incident.

Services have been delayed after reports of a person being hit on the line between Oxenholme and Lancaster.

It is understood that emergency services are currently at the scene.

In a statement, Avanti West Coast said: "Due to a person being hit by a train between Oxenholme Lake District and Lancaster all lines are blocked."

Passengers are being asked to find alternative routes as the line remains blocked.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes.

Transpennine Express are also reporting on services being affected on the routes.

A statement said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Oxenholme LakeDistrict and Lancaster all lines are blocked."

Inrix Traffic Monitoring services have reported disruption between Lancaster and Carlisle.

In a statement they said: "Service suspended on Avanti West Coast and Transpennine Express between Lancaster and Carlisle, Northern service between Lancaster and Oxenholme Lake District and between Lancaster and Carnforth due to emergency services dealing with an incident.

"Northern services are still operating between Oxenholme and Windermere. This is affecting services on the West Coast mainline."

Disruption is expected until at least 15:45.
